Background of the Study
Robotics is a multidisciplinary field that combines principles from engineering, mathematics, and computer science to design and build machines that can perform tasks autonomously. In the context of secondary education, robotics is considered a powerful tool for enhancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education by engaging students in hands-on, problem-solving activities. Robotics helps students develop critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork skills while also introducing them to advanced technologies that are central to the future job market.
In Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe State, secondary schools face challenges in attracting students to STEM subjects, which are often perceived as difficult and abstract. Robotics can play a significant role in changing this perception by making STEM learning more interactive and enjoyable. However, the implementation and impact of robotics in STEM education in the region have not been fully explored. This study will evaluate how robotics contributes to enhancing STEM education in secondary schools in Damaturu.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the potential of robotics to enhance STEM education, the integration of robotics in secondary schools in Damaturu Local Government Area is still in its early stages. There is limited research on how robotics impacts student engagement, academic achievement, and interest in STEM fields in this region. This study aims to evaluate the role of robotics in improving STEM education and to assess its effectiveness in fostering students' interest in STEM careers.
Objectives of the Study
To evaluate the role of robotics in enhancing STEM education in secondary schools in Damaturu.
To assess the impact of robotics on student interest and performance in STEM subjects.
To identify the challenges associated with implementing robotics in secondary schools in Damaturu.
Research Questions
How does robotics enhance STEM education in secondary schools in Damaturu Local Government Area?
What impact does robotics have on student interest and performance in STEM subjects?
What challenges are encountered in implementing robotics in secondary schools?
Research Hypotheses
Robotics significantly enhances STEM education in secondary schools in Damaturu.
Robotics increases student interest and academic performance in STEM subjects.
There are significant challenges in implementing robotics in secondary schools in Damaturu.
Significance of the Study
This study will highlight the importance of robotics in improving STEM education and inspire schools in Damaturu to adopt robotics programs. It will provide insights into the benefits of robotics for student engagement and learning outcomes in STEM disciplines.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on secondary schools in Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe State, and will evaluate the role of robotics in STEM education. Limitations include the availability of robotics equipment and varying levels of teacher expertise in robotics.
